When you’re a wedding photographer, you get to meet a lot of amazing people, document and gift people their very first family heirlooms… But must of all – you get to travel for weddings! If you’re like me and you love seeing new places, new experiences – being a destination wedding photographer is the best thing!

When Jennifer first contacted me, their wedding was going to be in Dallas. We loved talking so much – our first conversation was above an hour hah! I was so happy to be found by amazing people and booked to document their weddings.

Then one day, Jennifer called and her voice was a little worried:
“Hey, Tara… Do you have some time? I need to talk something with you…”
“Oh no!” I thought to myself, “there’s something up and I probably don’t want to hear it…”

“Well…” Jennifer continued “you know how we were going to do the wedding in Dallas? We had a little bit of change of plans… I’m not sure what you’d think but… We’re going to do a destination wedding in Cancun. Would you like to come with us?”

If you know me just a little bit, you probably guessed I was already jumping up and down in my apartment, screaming “YES!!! OF COURSE, I WOULD!!! ARE YOU EVEN ASKING?!?!?” so we started to plan for it!

I literally waited for MONTHS for June 23rd to come! And finally, it was time to pack up and leave to the airport.

The intimate wedding with only families and a few family friends took place at The Eldorado Royale in Cancun. We all arrived two days before the wedding and I got to meet all the family members ahead of time. We spent so much time together in the pool, at lunch, at breakfast – by the day of the wedding I felt like I knew everyone my entire life!

On the day of, I started with photographing Jennifer’s getting ready. Mitchell had a little surprise for her – a Kendra Scott necklace and matching earrings.

Along with the sweetest love note…

Then I continued with Mitchell’s getting ready and gift opening. Jennifer had picked a very elegant watch for him to wear on their big day.

It was finally time to get Jennifer in her dress! 🙂

Jennifer had picked out the most perfect dress and I was certain, Mitchell’s jaw was going to drop when he saw her!

Putting on shoes (especially strappy sandals!) while wearing a tight wedding dress is no joke folks! This is what friends are for! 🙂

Jennifer also wanted to do a first look with her dad before they walked down the aisle together.

Mitchell and Jennifer are so in love, it was an emotional moment for everyone. If you know Mitchell, he’s a tough strong guy who rarely shows his emotions – so it made this moment extra special!

And this… One of my favorite moments thru out the ceremony. Mitchell not only made a promise to Jennifer but also to her daughter that he’ll always be there for her.

And isn’t this one of the most joyful first kiss moments you’ve ever seen? Jennifer’s smiles lightened up our entire day!

And I’m telling you, you’re about to see some of the most gorgeous newlywed portraits you have ever seen in your life!

The super hot, humid and sticky Cancun weather, did not stop these folks from dancing all night! Seriously, they did not stop! Even I was dancing still on my way to my room hah!

… and the final dance of the night …

Thank you so much, Jennifer and Mitchell, for having me all the way in Cancun as part of your big day. You two are absolutely adorable and make the perfect family. I’m so happy I got to know you and your families closer and cannot wait to see what more life has for you two in the stores.
