Sedona Arizona Engagement Session

Sam + Aaron

I always book with the best couples and I’m so fudging excited to share this engagement session with y’all! A quirky Bumble bio caught Sam’s attention, and that’s where everything started.

Aaron wrote in his profile that he runs heaps so he can eat lots and then get more energy to run more. In return, Sam told him that running sucks. I mean – I kind of agree with Sam. The last time I ran on the treadmill, I ended up with a backache and ankle twist, hahaha!

Before they knew it, they were meeting up to celebrate their birthdays only five days apart. At Amoury Deep Ellum, they bonded over drinks, and then Sam asked if he felt like dancing. Aaron did look confused. Before he knew, they were walking across Deep Ellum to go swing dancing at Sons of Hermann Hall. They didn’t know then, but many dates later, that dance floor would be the same one they would have their first dance on as newlyweds. Yes, they have booked the wedding reception venue at what turned into their favorite party place. How epic is that? Doing their engagement session at their proposal location was also fun!

After six months of trying NOT to be a couple, Sam and Aaron decided to take their first trip down to San Antonio, and the magic started there. It was an effortless two days they spent together, and in the end, they were gushing love.

During their trip to Flagstaff, Sam proposed to Aaron (yes! You read that correct! We are here to demolish all the gender norms!). Flagstaff has a special place in Aaron’s heart as he lived there for a summer in college. Sam picked up on where his favorite spot of the city is and asked him to marry her there. But she didn’t know he had planned an elaborate proposal to her just the next day. He had arranged for her best friends to set up a romantic picnic with flowers and be at Cathedral Rock at sunset. He stalled until the lighting was just right. Sam did suspect he was going to propose, she had no idea her best friends would be there to celebrate. In that fantastic setting, Aaron proposed, and of course, Sam said yes!

With these lovely details in their love story so far, you won’t be surprised to know we had a rainbow during their engagement session. We put in a significant effort by getting up at 3:30 am to catch the early morning Sedona sunrise. Being an adventure photographer who travels, I’m into those ideas, but thank goodness for coffee cause it’s not always easy.

In the morning, we had the most beautiful sunrise and golden hour. I’m actually happy we got up that early as we did not get a golden hour during sunset due to the clouds – hello, monsoon season in Sedona! I try to get different lighting setups for every engagement session. That way my couples can choose between golden hour, shade, flash photos.

We had a great day of photo shooting around majestic red rock landscapes dotted with saguaro cactus plants. Sam and Aaron were a joy to photograph with their effortless playfulness and beautiful connection. I got to meet and mingle with Aaron’s family, while spending more time with my lovebirds.

Also, how cool is that after meeting me at my studio, Sam and Aaron decided to move to my building and be my neighbors until they are homeowners? I mean, how many other photographers get to throw pool parties with their couples haha 🙂

If you are engaged and looking for a traveling engagement photographer or want to shoot at home in Dallas, I would love to hear from you. Go ahead and fill out the form below and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

  • […] Sam and Aaron‘s wedding at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum was everything they could have dreamed of. They had their first date at the hall and spent the night swing dancing, so it was only fitting that they had their wedding there too. The hall was decorated with beautiful flowers and twinkling lights, and the guests danced the night away. It was a perfect day for a perfect couple. […]ReplyCancel
