Holy duck!
I don’t know how many more times I’m going to say this, but I STILL can’t believe I was lucky enough to be in DFW, on the path of the solar eclipse of 2024, and even more fortunate to have my adventurous, amazing friends who talked me into doing their anniversary session under the total eclipse of 2024.
If y’all remember Shelby and Bob, they’re my Big Bend night sky couple – now friends. Their wedding was on April 8, 2022, and this eclipse was probably Mother Nature’s biggest and best gift for their anniversary.
Bob and Shelby are HUGE on all things astronomy, and I’m so happy our paths crossed and I’m part of all their out-of-the-box photography ideas/wishes!
I had never shot anything featuring the sun – so it was a first-time experience. I’m not going to lie – I was low-key panicking. I only had experience photographing the night sky, Milky Way, etc., and even if you mess that one up, you have plenty of new moons throughout the year to make up for it. The fact that this eclipse is not going to happen in the US until 2044 and that I only had less than 4 minutes to figure my shit up and get all my settings correct… The pressure was real! Shelby and Bob are always super chill, so it was more the pressure I put on all by myself.
Believe it or not, I had to get my camera on the ground, and because I didn’t have a flip screen on it, my face was right there on the ground in the dust – with all sorts of nightmare critters crawling around me. I didn’t care. I was determined to get “the money shot,” I can always freak out later that something is crawling on me.
Bob is making fun of me telling all my couples “pelvis to pelvis” to get them closer – but hey, when couples literally go pelvis to pelvis and start laughing about it – that’s how I know you’re my ideal couple! 😉
Thank you again, friends, for having me as your photographer and giving me beautiful experiences to remember for a lifetime in return for my photography. I can’t wait for our next adventure!
HAPPY 2ND ANNIVERSARY SHELBY AND BOB!
