Happy Saturday y’all! This beautiful morning, I’m here to make your day even better with this sweet couple! Ashley and Alex booked me to celebrate their 5th anniversary and I was thrilled to do their anniversary session. They both love the nature and wanted to do their anniversary session photos at a lakeside.

Ashley and Alex met online back in 2015. Ashley’s 3-sentence profile and photos were enough for Alex to want to contact her. After exchanging messages, they decided to meet in person. At the time, Ashley lived in Maryland, while Alex lived in Virginia – they decided to meet in the middle, Washington.

According to Alex, their first date was super awkward. Although, Ashley disagrees with his assessment and wants to point out that they both took more than an hour to drink a single cup of tea as they kept the conversation flowing.

“He walked me to the metro like a gentleman, waited for my train with me, and told me he wanted to see me again. THEN… he… waited… precisely… 3 whole days before contacting me again. *facepalm*.”

Ashley remembers,
“We went on a second date and were inseparable from there!”
Alex agrees but also adds that he had to convince her to go on a third date after she ended up ditching him (ok, I made this up, lol!). He was adamant about making it work because Ashley made him feel like the luckiest man alive!

When did you know he was the one?
“According to Alex, he knew I was the one when I cleaned his shower. At the time, he shared an apartment with a friend, and they apparently had something against cleaning. I don’t remember the exact moment I knew Alex was the one, but we met at the end of May, and in September, we agreed to spend the holidays together. We did Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with his. I wouldn’t give up a holiday with my family for anyone but “the one,” so it must have been before that.”

Ashley knew Alex would propose an entire month before he actually came around to pop the question. He drove halfway across the country to ask for her parents’ blessing. She totally suspected that was what he was doing after he dodged some questions about where he was, but Ashley knew for sure when Alex sent her some photos of his hotel room. Y’all… Ashley knew. There was only one acceptable hotel to stay near her parents’ house, so she Googled it… Sure enough, the room looked the same. The next day she called her parents and asked, “I hope you were nice to my boyfriend!”. Her mom tried to cover for him, but nah… Ashley knew! (Now we all know who to call if we need a private investigator LOLOLOL!!!)

They went on a romantic dinner date, and Alex gave Ashley the most beautifully written letter. After she finished reading, he officially proposed sliding the ring across the table. Ashley totally ignored the ring, kissed him, and responded with “FINALLY!”.
“Keeping the happiest moment in your life a secret from the person you love the most is a difficult task. I was thrilled to be able to celebrate with him finally.”

“We eloped, and it was perfect! We got married beneath a willow tree at a resort in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our only two witnesses were our officiant and our photographer. We didn’t have to worry about a thing, and we were able to focus on what was important – each other.”

“What would be one piece of advice you can give to my “almost married couples”? What’s your secret sauce?” 🙂
“You’re going to annoy each other, argue, and experience difficult times. That’s normal. Be patient with each other and communicate. Remember why you got married.”
